The Luanda Medical Center is promoting a program of 11 masterclasses, under the motto ‘Preparation for Birth’, with the aim of informing, clarifying and preparing future mothers for the different stages of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. The program will run throughout the year, with one session per month scheduled, on different topics within the scope of childbirth training.
“At Luanda Medical Center, we are strongly committed to providing a calm, safe and happy environment for all mothers, throughout their journey from pregnancy to birth and postpartum. It is precisely in light of our mission to ensure humanized support for families that the masterclass program was created, the main objective of which is to provide future mothers with more tools and preparation instruments, so that the birth experience is calm and special”, says Daniela Campos, Director of Nursing at Luanda Medical Center.
The first class of the program took place this morning at the HCTA Hotel in Talatona, on the theme ‘Positive Birth Experience’, with a presentation on the topics ‘What is hypnobirthing’ and the ‘Importance of using relaxation techniques in preparing for birth’ , and a practical demonstration of visualization and breathing techniques, among others. The session was attended by Ana Paula Duarte, coordinating nurse and specialist in Neonatology at the Luanda Medical Center, and by special guest Iris Afonso, founder of the Skin.to.skin.by.iris project.
‘Pelvic Physiotherapy and Preparation for Childbirth’ will be the theme of the second class, scheduled for April 27th, with a special guest. This will be followed by classes on the themes ‘Breastfeeding and Newborn Care’ and ‘Nutrition and Exercise during Pregnancy’, in May and June, respectively. The month of July will be dedicated to the theme ‘Emotional and Mental Preparation for Childbirth’, while in August the theme ‘Birth Plan and Medical Interventions’ will be highlighted.
In September and October, respectively, the topics ‘Postpartum and Maternal Care’ and ‘Introduction to Newborn Care’ will be covered.
The end of the year will be reserved for the classes ‘Motor Development and Sensory Stimulation’ and ‘Baby Skin Care and Health’, which will take place in November and December, respectively. The last class is scheduled for January 2025, on the topic ‘Emotional Well-Being of Mother and Baby’.
