Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hydraulic Engineer Expert to join our Water & Food Security sector. This role is critical to the success of our infrastructure projects focused on improving access to clean water and sustainable irrigation in developing regions, particularly in Africa.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of water management systems, including Water Treatment Plants (ETA), Wastewater Treatment Plants (ETAR), and related networks and adduction systems, contributing to both agricultural and community development projects. MUST BE fully fluent in Portuguese and English; French s a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement hydraulic infrastructure including water treatment plants (ETA), wastewater treatment plants (ETAR), adduction pipelines, and distribution networks.
- Lead the definition of Terms of Reference (ToR) and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) for engaging suppliers, contractors, and design consultants.
- Supervise and coordinate external design teams from conceptual design to detailed/executive design, ensuring compliance with project specifications and international standards.
- Conduct advanced hydraulic modeling and calculations to assess system requirements and performance.
- Review and validate technical documentation, including technical designs (APDs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs) provided by partners.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure effective integration of hydraulic components into broader infrastructure projects.
- Conduct site visits, system diagnostics, and technical troubleshooting during both the design and construction phases.
- Support business development by evaluating client needs, proposing technical solutions, and contributing to cost estimations and project proposals.
- Stay current with industry trends, innovations, and regulatory changes in hydraulic and environmental engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering. A Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.
- 7 to 10+ years of proven experience in the design and construction of ETAs, ETARs, and hydraulic networks.
- Demonstrated experience in managing hydraulic engineering projects in African countries or similar developing contexts.
- Deep understanding of fluid mechanics, water resource management, and hydraulic systems design principles.
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g., EPANET, SWMM, HEC-RAS) and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Solid knowledge of engineering standards, environmental regulations, and international best practices.
- Experience in environmental impact assessments and sustainability-focused water strategies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard of technical documentation.
- MUST BE fully fluent in Portuguese and English; French s a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Africa as required.
