The opening of the Cuanza Norte Hospital recognizes Angola’s efforts to ensure access to comprehensive health care and the resilience of its population.

At the beginning of Angola’s 50th year of independence, the country thus strengthened national health care with the opening of the General Hospital, the third developed by Mitrelli in cooperation with the Angolan government in the space of a year.

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Gonçalves Lourenço, inaugurated the new hospital, in the presence of the Governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, as well as other prominent members of the government, religious leaders and traditional authorities. This event celebrates Angola’s efforts to ensure access to comprehensive health care and the resilience of its population.

This new hospital, with a capacity of 200 beds spread over 15,000 m², serves 500,000 inhabitants as well as thousands of inhabitants of neighboring provinces, which represents a major step forward in terms of access to care.

With innovative healthcare solutions, it offers specialized services in oncology, surgery, rehabilitation, pediatrics and maternity, as well as intensive care units for adults and newborns. The facility also houses state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services, a clinical analysis laboratory and a hospital waste treatment unit, which contribute to both the quality of care and environmental sustainability.

Together with the two other hospitals inaugurated earlier – Cuanza Sul General Hospital (October 2024) and Bengo General Hospital (November 2023) – this expanded health network now reaches over 3 million inhabitants, offering a total of 600 beds on over 100,000 m² of health infrastructure, and creating nearly 4,000 jobs. This integrated approach is redefining the healthcare landscape in Angola and fostering a vision of sustainable, community-centered growth.

Beyond healthcare, this hospital is an engine of economic and professional growth, generating jobs within the community and setting a new standard in healthcare talent development. Through comprehensive training, Mitrelli equips Angolan professionals with the expertise and resources needed to ensure the sustainability and self-sufficiency of the national healthcare system.

According to Haim Taib, founder and chairman of Mitrelli, “ A strong healthcare system is essential to the growth and prosperity of any nation, especially in the fastest growing regions of the world.”

“ When healthcare is accessible and robust, people live longer and healthier lives, employment opportunities expand, and communities thrive, which directly contributes to economic resilience and national stability. At Mitrelli, we understand that the impact of healthcare requires professionalism, meticulous planning, and a commitment to innovation. By building facilities to the highest international standards and integrating cutting-edge technologies, we aim to create healthcare systems that support communities, fuel economic growth, and leave a positive legacy for generations to come  ,” continued Taib.

Rodrigo Manso, General Manager of Mitrelli Angola: “  We are extremely proud to inaugurate our third hospital in the space of a year, a milestone that underscores our dedication to this mission and to the Angolan people. Mitrelli’s cross-sector synergy allows us to offer customized, high-level solutions that meet Angola’s unique needs and aspirations, including the full range of infrastructure essential to these facilities. In partnership with Angola’s leaders, we are creating lasting change that will serve generations to come, transforming these hospitals into symbols of a nation’s commitment to its people. It is an honor to work alongside a government so committed to shaping a better future for all.  ”

This third hospital opening exemplifies the enduring nature of the partnership between Mitrelli and the Angolan government, demonstrating a shared commitment to resilient, accessible, and sustainable healthcare for all Angolans. By building state-of-the-art facilities that integrate healthcare with economic growth and professional development, Angola is not only advancing the well-being of its citizens, but also directly contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on health, economic growth, and sustainable communities. Together, these efforts mark a transformative step in Angola’s healthcare journey, setting a strong standard for progress across the continent.
