Focus Education, the education subsidiary of the Mitrelli Group, participated in the 16th eLearning Africa Annual Conference and Exhibition, in Dakar, Senegal from May 24-26, 2023.
At the event Focus Education engaged with industry professionals, sharing its expertise, and contributed to to the discourse on technology-enabled education, training, and skills development needs in African countries.
Leapfrogging into Limitless Learning
Africa faces significant challenges in its educational landscape.
The current educational landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa highlights the pressing need for innovative solutions, as only 43% of youth complete high school. This stark reality emphasizes the misalignment between traditional educational approaches and the evolving needs of the continent.
Shortages of teachers, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of up-to-date educational materials hinder the provision of quality education. Many African children and youth are still unable to access education, with figures showing that more than one in five African children aged six to 11 are not in school, rising to nearly three in five for those aged 15 to 17 (UNESCO, 2022). Additionally, tertiary education faces even greater obstacles.
To address these challenges and leapfrog into limitless learning, digital solutions are essential. Digital learning offers scalability and accessibility, providing relevant and high-quality education to citizens across Africa. It addresses the need for quality educational materials and content, ensuring the educational process is impactful and relevant. Technology enables access to the latest sources of knowledge, bridging the gap between content and students, including those in rural areas who are often left out. By producing online educational resources, we can offer cost-effective, tailored, and high-quality content through digital platforms.
The aim of every project of Focus Education, is to empower individuals and entire communities through customized and data-driven solutions, enabling them to contribute to their countries and build a resilient global society.

In Senegal, Focus Education is undertaking significant projects that will have a long-term impact on employment prospects for the next generation,
In line with our commitment to empowering individuals with digital skills, we have recently formed a strategic partnership with Sénégal Numérique SA. to empower Senegalese citizens with digital skills and position Senegal as a thriving technology hub in Africa. This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, aims to foster a dynamic ecosystem that equips the next generation with essential digital competencies, creating sustainable employment opportunities and driving technological advancement in the region.
In parallel, Focus is establishing a national network of 23 training centers across the country, with a capacity to annually reach up to 30,000 young adults. These state-of-the-art facilities aim to develop in-demand skills and equip students with essential technical expertise, ensuring a seamless integration into the job market. The training centers will offer advanced courses covering key vocational fields such as food production, agriculture, water treatment, informatics, carpentry, textiles, energy, and more.
