Luanda has a new MRI machine, which is installed at the Luanda Medical Center (LMC). Luanda has a new MRI machine, which is installed at the Luanda Medical Center (LMC). In an investment of 1.9 billion kwanzas, the machine (Philips MR5300 1.5 Tesla), whose presentation took place this Tuesday at LMC, reduces exam time from 60 to 30 minutes, ultimately making it possible to “serve five times longer people”.

“This is a very important step in access to exams that could only be done abroad. Until now, in Angola, there was no ability to do, for example, an MRI of the skull with proton spectroscopy, which makes it possible to study certain pathologies that alter brain biochemistry, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The same happens, among others, with fetal magnetic resonance imaging, in which it is now possible to further study high-risk pregnancies to identify problems in the central nervous system of a fetus”, said Vera Fontes, clinical director of LMC, quoted in the note.
It should be noted that to operate this device, clinic professionals were trained “by a Philips technician specialized in this equipment, also allowing to optimize study protocols, with regard to time and detail, so that the studies carried out have maximum quality, speed and comfort for patients” from LMC.
